WSA Special Education Services
During School Closure Dear families, We appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times. While schools are closed per Governor Cuomo’s executive order, the school district must ensure that students with disabilities also have equal access to distance learning opportunities provided to general education students. To the greatest extent possible and appropriate, each student with a disability will be provided special education services identified in the student’s IEP through distance learning. You can expect your child’s special education teachers and related service providers to be in contact with you and your students via phone, email, google classroom, or other virtual connections. Teachers and related service providers will be providing a variety of resources, materials, and activities that will be designed to continue to allow your child to work on academic skills and activities they were working on prior to the school closure. They are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have with accessing the materials or information shared. There will be no in person therapy or services provided during this school closure. Upon the reopening of schools we will resume regular programming and services. We will work with you and your child’s educational team to determine appropriate next steps. Please continue to regularly check the district’s website for updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. We look forward to having your children back in school as soon as possible. Dan Kalbfliesh Principal The following explains how our school will be responding to COVID-19 as per the CDC's guidelines.
Dear Parents and Guardians, We are reaching out to you to provide some important information about the coronavirus (also known as COVID-19 or 2019-nCoV). Given the media attention and the importance of your child’s health and safety, we want to share some basic information about the coronavirus and ways to stay healthy. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause symptoms of colds. However, this is a “novel” virus, originating in China in late 2019. Until recently, this particular strain of coronavirus circulated among animals only. Symptoms most commonly include fever with cough, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat and runny nose. Some people have fewer or no symptoms at all. The virus is likely spread from coughing and sneezing droplets. While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers this to be a serious public health concern, based on current information, the immediate health risk to our school district and school community is low at this time.
